After T20 World Cup 2024 snub, skipper Rohit Sharma catches up with Rinku Singh

Despite being one of the best performers for the last year, Rinku wasn’t included in India’s 15-man squad.

It’s tough to be Rinku Singh right now. He’s out of form in the IPL 2024 season, and on top of that, he’s found himself out of favor with the Indian selectors. It turns out averaging 89 and striking at 172 in T20I wasn’t enough. Luckily, he’ll still travel across the Atlantic for the T20 World Cup 2024 as a reserve.

Whether or not Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma played any role in his exclusion isn’t sure, but surely he was the first to lend his support to him. Ahead of the MI vs KKR match in Mumbai, the two met up during training.

Toughest decision: Agarkar on leaving Rinku Singh out

It wasn’t long before Rohit addressed the media at the BCCI headquarters regarding the selections made for the T20 World Cup 2024. During the press conference, BCCI chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, even called the decision to leave Rinku Singh out the ‘toughest’.

The decision was the toughest. It’s got nothing to do with Rinku Singh. It is just a combination. We felt Rohit could have an extra spin option with two wrist spinners. He was very close to making the cut, and his presence in the reserves signifies that,” Agarkar had said.
