CNN’s Clarissa Ward Describes Being Detained in Sudan

Top of the Ticker: CNN’s chief international correspondent Clarissa Ward and her crew were briefly detained by a rebel militia in the Darfur region of Sudan earlier this month. Ward wrote about her harrowing 48-hour experience in a post on CNN’s website recounting why they were in that area, how they were captured, and how they were released. “As a journalist, one never wants to become the story,” she says in her account. “And yet our experience is instructive in understanding the complexities of the conflict in Darfur and the challenges of getting food and aid to those who need it most and getting the story out of the world.”

Debate Night: It’s not Kamala Harris and Donald Trump rematch, but presidential debate will take place on Wednesday night. Scripps News is airing an 8 p.m. debate featuring third party candidates Jill Stein (Green Party), Chase Oliver (Libertarian) and Randall Terry (Constitution). The debate will be moderated by Christina Tobin, founder and executive director of Free and Equal Elections Foundation.

Cover Model: On the heels of last week’s highly-anticipated interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, Fox News’ Bret Baier is featured on the cover of the December issue of Cigar Aficionado. Baier sat down for an in-depth interview with Marvin R. Shanken, smoking stogies while discussing the state of American politics and the two presidential candidates. “It’s a really divided country, almost perfectly split,” he observes. “We have big challenges that we as a country have to deal with together.”
