Moringa is a member of the Moringaceae family that originated in India and Africa. Among its 13 species, Moringa oleifera stands out for its exceptional nutritional value.

Known as the “drumstick tree” or “horseradish tree,” this plant is used as both food and traditional medicine.

Every part of the moringa plant offers value, from leaves and seeds to pod husks, flowers, bark, and stems.

Research shows moringa contains beneficial compounds, including carbohydrates, functional peptides, tannins, folates, and proteins. The plant also provides multiple vitamins, minerals, and healthy antioxidants.

A study focused on postmenopausal women found significant benefits. Taking one and a half teaspoons of moringa leaf powder daily for three months lowered fasting blood glucose by 13.5%. This suggests moringa could help manage the body changes women experience during midlife.

Moringa’s anti-inflammatory effects have deep roots in ancient medicine, particularly Ayurveda. The plant helps treat various conditions, including stomach ulcers, liver problems, kidney issues, fungal infections, and digestive concerns.

Moringa oil explicitly supports liver health by helping detoxify and remove harmful substances like heavy metals. The plant also shows potential in treating kidney stones, urinary infections, constipation, fluid retention, and diarrhea.

5.     It may reduce cholesterol and weight

Research suggests moringa offers multiple benefits for heart health and weight management. Studies show it may lower harmful cholesterol while boosting beneficial cholesterol levels and supporting weight loss.

While most research comes from animal studies, clinical trials with overweight adults have shown promising results. A formula containing 60% moringa leaf extract helped reduce body weight and BMI while improving cholesterol balance.

Edema occurs when fluid builds up in body tissues, for example, due to inflammation. Ear edema can cause tissue swelling around the ear, mostly because of an infection.

According to a 2022 study, applying moringa seed oil decreased skin inflammation in mice with ear edema. This study focuses on the anti-inflammatory properties of moringa that can help treat ear edema.
