Virat Kohli missed the IND vs ENG 1st ODI due to an issue with his right knee. But he is set to return to action in Cuttack

After missing the IND vs ENG 1st ODI, Virat Kohli is in all likeliness to play the second contest in Cuttack. India cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma had informed during the toss at Nagpur that the ace batter will sit out of the contest due to an issue with his right knee. Now, a report has shed light on the nature and extent of his injury. Meanwhile, India clinched a convincing 4-wicket win in Nagpur.

Virat Kohli to play IND vs ENG 2nd ODI?

As per Times of India, Kohli’s knee was fine during practice on Wednesday but swelled up on reaching the team hotel after the training. A source told the publication that the injury did not look bad and that he will play in Cuttack in all likelihood. The report adds that the decision to rest Kohli was taken late on Wednesday night.

His right knee was fine during practice, but once we got back to the team hotel, it swelled up. It doesn’t seem bad though. He will play in the Cuttack ODI in all likelihood,” a team insider told TOI.

Kohli was seen with his right-knee strapped while doing warm-ups before the IND vs ENG 1st ODI. He was seen moving gingerly as he went about the drills. The 36-year-old batter has an exceptional record in the 50-over format, where in 295 matches, he has scored 13906 runs at an average of 58. To go with that, he has 50 ODI tons as well.

In Virat’s absence, Yashasvi Jaiswal was handed his ODI debut. Vice-captain Shubman Gill filled in Kohli’s shoes and aced his role as the number three batter. Known for his fitness, this injury flare-up is the least of concern for Virat and he will be looking to bounce back in a strong fashion.
