PBS News Hour Co-Anchors Named Co-Managing Editors

New News Hour Duties: PBS News Hour co-anchors Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett have been named co-managing editors of the evening newscast. The duo—who were named co-anchors in January 2023—will help lead the editorial direction of content shared on all PBS News platforms in addition to their daily co-anchoring duties.

“These roles carry the great weight of the giants in journalism who preceded us in these roles,” Nawaz tells TVNewser. “The pressure to meet the moment is a true privilege. [Senior executive producer] Sara Just, Geoff, and I work very closely each day to get out the best show possible every evening and broader coverage round-the-clock online through our exceptional digital team that’s been an industry leader on that front for years.”

“Stepping into the role of co-managing editor means having the privilege and responsibility of helping to guide one of the most trusted news organizations at a critical time,” adds Bennett. “It means upholding the News Hour’s legacy of in-depth, fact-based journalism while ensuring our coverage remains sharp, relevant, and illuminating.”

Asked what viewers should expect from the broadcast now that they are co-managing editors, Nawaz says to that the duo are committed to “putting more good information out in the world to combat the bad.”

“Viewers can expect News Hour to build on its legacy of rigorous, in-depth journalism,” echoes Bennett. “Expect thoughtful interviews, deeper analysis, and a renewed commitment to telling the full story with the necessary nuance and context.”

CNN Additions: Sara Owermohle and Andrew Kirell are joining CNN as a health policy and politics reporter and the senior media editor of the Reliable Sources newsletter, respectively.

Based in Washington, D.C., Owermohle joins the network from STAT, where she was a Washington correspondent reporting on the federal government’s healthcare agenda, policies, and politics.
