No Gains in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54


Week of March 24

ABC News’ Good Morning America has extended its wins streak in total viewers to four weeks over NBC News’ Today. The lead has now stretched to a difference of +80,000 total viewers between the two-morning shows. 

Meanwhile, none of the morning shows experienced any week-to-week gains in total viewers or the advertiser-coveted Adults 25-54 demo during the final week of March.  

According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.604 million total viewers and 464,000 viewers in A25-54 for the week of March 24. It was down -2% in total viewers but flat in the demo compared to the previous week.

Looking at its performance in the same week in 2024, GMA was down in total viewers by -7% and -11% in the A25-54 demo. 

Today remained in first place in the A25-54 demo with 609,000 viewers and was behind GMA in total viewers with 2.524 million for the week of March 24. Looking at the show’s numbers from the previous week, Today’s was down by -3% in total viewers and -5% in the demo. Compared to the same week in 2024, Today’s total viewers saw a drop of -10% and -11% in the demo. 

CBS Mornings was in third place for the just concluded week, with 2.002 million total viewers and 365,000 viewers in A25-54. Compared to the previous week, it was flat in total viewers and down -6% in the demo. During the same period in 2024, CBS Mornings fell in total viewers and the A25-54 demo by -6% and -18%, respectively.

First Quarter 2024

Meanwhile, NBC News’ Today took the top spot, trouncing Good Morning America in total viewers with a difference of only 7,000 total viewers during the first quarter. Today was also the No. 1 in the Adults 25-54 demo, continuing its dominance in the advertiser-favored category. 

All morning shows experienced year-to-year declines in both measured categories, despite a newsy first quarter, which included the Los Angeles wildfires, the inauguration of Donald Trump and the beginning of his second term, and the unfortunate airplane tragedies in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia and the mishap in Canada, which saw no fatalities.

According to the most current data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.694 million total viewers and 464,000 viewers in A25-54 for the just concluded quarter. When looking at the same quarterly period in 2024, GMA was down in total viewers by -7% and -16% in the demo, respectively. 

NBC News’ Today was on top in total viewers and A25-54 with 2.701 million viewers and 666,000 viewers, respectively, for Q1 2025. A difference of 7,000 total viewers separated Today and GMA during this past quarter. Compared to the same quarterly period in 2024, it was down by -4% in total viewers and by -3% in the demo.
